Tabs to AI privacy policy
Last updated November 4, 2026
Tabs to AI is a Chrome extension that captures web pages and YouTube transcripts as screenshots and Markdown files on your computer, and can place them into a new ChatGPT message when you ask it to. It can also open a list of links you paste as browser tabs. This page explains what it does with data.
The short version
The extension has no account, no server and no analytics. The developer never receives anything you capture, any of your browsing, or any information about you.
What the extension reads
- The pages you choose to capture. When you capture a page or run a batch, the extension reads that page's text and takes screenshots of it, in your browser.
- YouTube transcripts. On a YouTube video, the extension reads the transcript YouTube shows on the page. To read a playlist, it asks YouTube for the playlist's list of videos.
- ChatGPT conversations. To copy a ChatGPT conversation exactly, the extension, running on chatgpt.com, asks ChatGPT for your signed-in session and loads that conversation through ChatGPT's own conversation API, the same way the ChatGPT page does. Your session is used only inside that chatgpt.com page. It is never stored and never sent anywhere else.
- Links you paste. On Many pages and in the popup's Open links in tabs, the extension reads the text you paste to find the links in it.
Where it goes
- Your Downloads folder. Screenshots, Markdown files, the combined Markdown file and the CSV index are saved to your computer.
- ChatGPT, only when you ask. Send to ChatGPT opens a new chat on chatgpt.com and places the page's or the batch's text and smaller JPEG copies of its screenshots into the message box of your own ChatGPT account. You ask for this by clicking Send to ChatGPT (on the popup's first screen, that one click captures the page and then sends it), or by ticking Send to ChatGPT when done on Many pages, which sends when the batch finishes. It never presses Send in the chat for you. What happens to a message after you send it is covered by OpenAI's privacy policy.
- Your clipboard. Sending a page you have already captured copies that page's Markdown (when it has some) to your clipboard first. The one-click Send on the popup's first screen copies nothing. Sending a batch copies its text only when it can't fill the chat. Get transcript also copies the transcript to your clipboard while the popup is open. The Copy buttons copy text or an image when you press them.
Nothing else leaves your computer. Requests the extension makes go only to the site you are capturing, to youtube.com for transcripts and playlists, and to chatgpt.com when you capture a ChatGPT conversation or send to ChatGPT. Links you choose to open in tabs load in those tabs, like any page you open yourself.
What it stores
The extension keeps a few things in Chrome's extension storage, on your computer only.
Until you close Chrome:
- the progress of the current capture, batch and Send to ChatGPT, so you can close and reopen the popup or Many pages and see where it got to. This includes those pages' addresses and titles, the last capture's Markdown (so Copy and Send still work), which tab Many pages is in, and which finished batch you closed;
- links you pasted into Open links in tabs and haven't opened yet, so closing the popup doesn't lose them.
Until you remove the extension:
- the name of the last batch folder, so the next batch gets its own folder;
- your remembered choices: what to save, Open tabs or Paste links, the Screenshot and Markdown ticks, Send to ChatGPT when done, and how pasted links open as tabs.
The text and screenshots of the last capture or batch are also held in the extension's memory, so they can be saved and sent. They are gone when you close Chrome.
It keeps nothing else, and you can clear all of it at any time by removing the extension.
Permissions
The extension gets no site access at install. It asks for site access later, only when you need it:
- All-sites access, the first time you capture with Many pages (or press Allow access there). Chrome requires it to screenshot tabs you haven't clicked. Sending a batch to ChatGPT uses this same access.
- Access to chatgpt.com only, the first time you send a single page to ChatGPT, to place the message into the ChatGPT tab the extension opened. It isn't asked for if you already allowed all-sites access.
Capturing the page you're on and opening pasted links in tabs need neither.
Selling and sharing
Your data is not sold, not shared with anyone, not used for advertising, and not used for anything other than the capture, send and open-links features described above.
